Finding the gift

Every challenge presents a gift. Sometimes, it’s difficult to see the gift in a tough situation, because it’s wrapped in an unpleasant coat of stress. Look past the top layer, and waiting underneath is a gift that could change your course for the better.

Back in 2005, when I was sick and quarantined for three months, I found the gift in the form of a work-from-home gig that doubled my previous income.

When the coronavirus pandemic struck, the gift-wrap company Tokki directed 100% of its textile inventory to the production of face coverings. This allowed them to satisfy the appetite for an essential item and boost revenue. They found the gift.

Interestingly, Tokki’s mission is to “spark the joy of connection through gifting.”

No matter what doubts, opinions or circumstances threaten to drown out your mission, keep seeking the gift. When you find it, do what Arthur Ashe would have done: “Start where you are, use what you have, and do what you can.”

Go make magic.
