How to eat an elephant
In her book Bird by Bird, Anne Lamott describes the origin of the title. Her 10-year old brother was struggling with a school report on birds.
Lamott writes that he was “immobilized by the hugeness of the task.” So, her father sat down next to the boy, wrapped his arm around his shoulder and said, “Bird by bird, buddy. Just take it bird by bird.”
You might be feeling immobilized by a huge task right now. It’s normal. Yet, there is only one way to eat an elephant: one bite at a time.
We all need a reminder to break up big projects into smaller parts. A script into scenes. A song into verses. A book into chapters.
Tiny drops of goals become puddles that become streams that become rivers.
