Legal bribery

Four years ago, when I was looking for a new job, I found the perfect way to make an impression. I was vying for a competitive role with a major brand. I needed to rise above the mountain pile of resumes.

So, what did I do to set myself apart?

First, I printed my resume on premium cardboard paper. Next, I bought a dozen cupcakes from Crave. Finally, I taped my resume to the lid of the cupcake box and hand-delivered the treats to my prospective employer.

The stunt made an impression. I received a call from the company the next day. Not only did the approach generate attention from the company recruiter, it also landed me an interview with the hiring manager.

Ultimately, I accepted a position elsewhere. But, my cupcake resume accomplished its goal. It helped set me apart from the competition and grabbed attention from the right audience.

Attention is currency. If you want to be memorable, consider using theater to draw the right kind of attention.
