A Book I Love: Subliminal

You know what keeps me up at night? The idea that each of us walks around with the most powerful computer on earth, yet none of us knows precisely how it works. Well, that was the case for me until I came across a powerful neuroscience book that enhanced my appreciation for the human brain.

If you’re curious about how the brain conceives, stores and retrieves information, then I highly recommend Subliminal by Leonard Mlodinow (not an affiliate link).

The recurring insight is that there’s so much of the brain we don’t yet understand, but the things we do understand are well-detailed in an accessible manner. It’s not as intense as you might expect—thankfully, Leonard Mlodinow injects humor throughout to keep things light.

Favorite Quotes:

“The brain is a brilliant scientist, but an outstanding lawyer.”

“Every human mind is a scientist creating a model of the world around us, the evry day world our brain detects through our senses.”

“We choose the facts that we want to believe. We also choose our friends, lovers and spouses not just because of the way we perceive them, but because of the way they perceive us.”
